Stoehner appointed to Double Oak Town Council

Stacie Stoehner was appointed this week to the Double Oak Town Council.

Stoehner — appointed Monday — will fill a seat left vacant by the death of Mayor Pro Tem Steve Durbin, who died March 19 in a local hospital. Durbin, 66, was re-elected to the council May 6 after garnering 120 votes. Also elected to the council in the recent election was Scott Whisenhunt. Voters elected Mike Donnelly the town mayor.

Durbin's name was not removed from the May 6 ballot because his death occurred after the deadline for omitting his name from ballots. Texas Election Code states that a name may only be omitted if a candidate dies on or before the 74th day before an election.

Terms on the council are two years. Town officials say Stoehner will serve for one year. The term's remaining year will be placed on the May 2018 ballot, according to town officials.

Additional details on Stoehner were unavailable at press time.

Double Oak is a town of 3,000 residents located south of Denton between Bartonville and Flower Mound.
