Festival honors top tellers of tall tales

Tall tales were being told Saturday during the annual Liars Contest at the Texas Storytelling Festival.

Lorene Stillwell won the contest with the lore of a heat wave in Ireland — a mighty 69 degrees — and how it all fit with a flying granny, an exploding girdle and a vat of vapor rub.

Decee Cornish, who won second place, captured the audience with tales of Uncle Puddin’, a lawn mower turned way to get around town, and Little Red, the rooster.

Anne McCready took third-place for her Pineville fishing tale involving a monster catfish and a magnet.
