74-year-old man dies after tractor accident

A 74-year-old man died Thursday when the mower on his tractor ran over him, according to a Denton County sheriff’s report.

Charles Posey and his son were working on the tractor at his home in the 400 block of Annex Lane in the Little Elm area.

According to the report, the tractor engine was running and Posey was standing between the tractor and the mower about 5:30 p.m. when the tractor lurched forward.

He was struck by the left rear tire and knocked down and then run over by the mower, the report stated.

Family members called 911 and paramedics arrived, but he was declared dead at the scene.

Sally Beauty reports growth in 2nd quarter

Sally Beauty Holdings Inc. reported strong second-quarter earnings Thursday.

The company reported net earnings of $67.8 million in the second quarter compared to $49.3 million during the same period last year.

Company sales rose 11 percent from $801.8 million to $889.3 million.

Author to sign copies of new book

Local author and teacher Nuhad HeLal will sign copies of Let’s Dine Lebanese:  Authentic Cooking from a Mother’s Kitchen at 1 p.m. today at Barnes & Noble Booksellers in Golden Triangle Mall.

The mall is located at 2201 S. Interstate 35E.


Cemetery association plans annual meeting

The annual meeting of the Belew Cemetery Association will be held at 7 p.m. today in the office building at the cemetery.

Anyone who has family members buried at the cemetery is invited to attend. The meeting will include election of new officers and directors.

Families will also observe decoration weekend today and Sunday.

The cemetery is located at 9500 Belew Road in Pilot Point.
