Two people died in a four-vehicle accident on West University Drive on Saturday night.

The crash occurred at about 9 p.m., when a Nissan Altima heading westbound veered into eastbound traffic in the 8100 block of West University Drive, said Ryan Grelle, spokesman for Denton police. The Altima struck a Lexus, sending it into a spin. After hitting the Lexus, the Altima struck a Toyota Tacoma pickup nearly head-on, causing the Tacoma to collide with a PT Cruiser.

Rhonda Barney, the 57-year-old driver of the Altima, was killed upon impact. Her city of residence had not been released.

Ryan Abraham, 21, of Ponder, the driver of the Tacoma, was taken to Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Denton, where he was declared dead.

The 33-year-old male driver of the Lexus also was taken to Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Denton, where he is in stable condition, according to police reports.

The 20-year-old female driver of the PT Cruiser was transferred to Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Denton for ankle injuries. A 29-year-old male passenger was taken by CareFlite helicopter to Plano Medical Center and remains in critical condition.

Grelle said Denton police are still investigating the accident.
