Three other retailers added to Rayzor Ranch roster
RED Development LLC announced Tuesday that Famous Footwear, Petco and a Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft store will be joining a Kohl’s department store at Rayzor Ranch Marketplace.
It was the first time the Arizona-based developer confirmed that Kohl’s would be one of the anchor stores in the shopping center, but city officials have been talking about it for the past year and have already started approving permits.
Mayor Mark Burroughs told a small crowd of residents at the Vintage Retirement Community about two weeks ago that the north side of the Rayzor Ranch development was nearly done, now that Kohl’s is coming in.
“The Kohl’s is being built near Sam’s [Club] and Walmart,” Burroughs said of the two main anchors for the 800,000-square-foot retail hub.
Kohl’s, which sells clothing and home products, will have a 55,000-square-foot space at 2620 W. University Drive.
“These are all good matches; they work well with Kohl’s,” said Linda Ratliff, director of economic development for the city of Denton, of the other additions.
Famous Footwear, a shoe retailer, will have a 6,000-square-foot space. Petco, which sells pet supplies, will have a 10,000-square-foot location. And Jo-Ann will have a 22,000-square-foot space.
“This is the largest retail development between Dallas and Oklahoma City,” said Kendra Hinderland, RED Development’s managing vice president of asset management.
Construction on Kohl’s has begun and the construction of the three other stores will begin in early 2013, Hinderland said. All four stores are expected to be completed next year, she said.
RED Development officials estimate the new stores will add 200 jobs to the Denton economy.
“The Kohl’s is going to have a significant impact on our sales tax,” Ratliff said.
Consumers have had to leave Denton to shop at Kohl’s, so that money now will come to Denton, she said.
While there is a Famous Footwear at Golden Triangle Mall and a Petco near the mall, the new locations will offer shoppers the same options on the other side of town, Ratliff said.
There already is a Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft store on West University, but it is smaller than the new store will be, she said.
“The whole development’s been very successful,” Ratliff said.
