City programs garner awards

City of Denton television staff earned eight awards for programs on the city’s government access channel.

The awards were given during the Texas Association of Telecommunications Officers and Advisors Conference in San Antonio on Oct. 25.

The group is a professional, nonprofit association that represents cable television and other telecommunications systems in more than 55 Texas cities.

For the annual awards, programs from 20 cities competed in 28 categories. Denton’s access channel, DTV, earned third place in overall excellence in government programming for small-budget operators.

The children’s program Library Larry’s Big Day was honored with two awards, first place for partnership production and second place for special audience.

DTV Newsbreak took second place for magazine format. DTV public service announcements won both first and third place in that category. Two more second-place awards went to DTV’s video text bulletin board and an event/program promotion for Denton Online.

DTV is streamed on the city’s website, and available through Verizon FIOS Channel 38, Charter Channel 26 and Grande Channel 12.
