Blotter: Attempted theft causes clerk to wrestle customer

A local gas station clerk got into a wrestling match with a customer Saturday when the customer attempted to steal a bottle of sports drink, according to a police report.

The man escaped with the drink but was arrested a few blocks away, allegedly attempting to rob another store, the report stated.

Officers were dispatched at about 6:10 a.m. to the first business, located on Lindsey Street. The clerk told police that when he confronted a man who was attempting to steal a bottle of sports drink, the man punched him in the head and wrestled him to the ground.

The clerk told police the man escaped with the drink. While officers were talking to the clerk, another robbery was reported a few blocks away on Fort Worth Drive.

Officers went to that location and tracked down the suspect. Officers arrested the man and charged him with robbery and terroristic threat.

2220 block of North Bell Avenue — Officers responded to a report of criminal trespass at about 8:39 p.m. after a woman reported her ex-boyfriend allegedly entered her apartment without her permission, a police report stated.

The woman told police that her ex-boyfriend had climbed the privacy fence to enter her apartment, the report stated. Officers arrived on scene and while attempting to place the suspect under arrest, the suspect resisted.

Officers arrested the man and transported him to the Denton Jail.

1220 block of Shady Oaks Drive — On Saturday, a man reported that his business was burglarized overnight. According to the police report, an unknown suspect or suspects stole about $25,000 worth of equipment and caused about $2,200 in damage.
