Lewisville police have a suspect in custody in connection with the shooting death of a 26-year-old man early Sunday morning in the front yard of a home in the 1200 block of North Cowan Avenue in Lewisville.

The victim, Jacob Gutierrez, was shot multiple times in the head and chest and died at 1:27 a.m., according to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s office. The death was ruled a homicide.

The suspect, Humberto Martinez-Benitez, 56, also of Lewisville, was charged with murder and booked into the Lewisville Detention Center for arraignment, police said.

According to a police report, officers responded to the Village North Mobile Home Park at about 1:11 a.m. and found Gutierrez’s body in the front yard of a residence when they arrived.

Officers obtained descriptions of the man who allegedly shot Gutierrez and the vehicle in which he reportedly left the scene and alerted other area law enforcement agencies.

Martinez-Benitez was initially detained by Carrollton police and held until he could be taken into custody by Lewisville officers.

Police said Martinez-Benitez and Gutierrez are members of the same family, and the police report stated that the two apparently had a disagreement.
