Denton resident Sergio Puga, who was diagnosed with tongue cancer February 2011, is now undergoing a second round of chemotherapy for a condition doctors say could be terminal. Since January, Puga, 31, has been visiting Baylor Medical Center in Fort Worth each Wednesday for chemotherapy.

To help the family cover his medical expenses, his mother, Sylvia Puga, and his former classmates will have a benefit fundraiser from 7 p.m. to midnight Friday, Dec. 7, at the North Texas State Fairgrounds, 2217 N Carroll Blvd.

He is a senior at Texas Tech. In the summer, he was completing his engineering internship before he was diagnosed back in June with the same disease. He will be receiving his certificate of completion in engineering from Texas Teach on Dec. 15, said his wife, Cristina Puga.

“Nine months after we got married, he got diagnosed with cancer,” she said.
