The University of North Texas system recently announced Terry Pankratz, vice chancellor for finance, has accepted a job with the University of Texas at Dallas.

The change will take effect Jan. 1.

Pankratz will be the vice president for budget and finance at UT-Dallas.

UNT Chancellor Lee Jackson said Pankratz had talked to him about applying for the position and Jackson was not surprised he was selected.

“Our loss is UT-Dallas’ gain,” Jackson said.

Before coming to UNT, Pankratz worked as the vice president for finance and chief financial officer at Texas A&M University.

“He came to us with a long track record at Texas A&M,” Jackson said.

Pankratz likes hands-on, direct campus management, Jackson said.

During his time at UNT, Pankratz helped design and implement shared business and IT services, according to Jackson’s announcement.

He also improved cash management on all campuses, Jackson said.

“He’s had a major role in several projects,” he said.

He also led a team of 300 people responsible for system-wide accounting, reporting, budgeting and information technology services.

Pankratz said he values his experiences at UNT.

“It’s always hard to leave an organization once you’ve become invested,” he said.

There are a lot of projects in motion, Pankratz said.

“You wish you could time opportunities so it’s an optimal time to leave,” he said.

Pankratz was drawn to UT-Dallas because it’s a young university in the early stages of “something exciting,” he said.

Jackson said he is unsure when a search committee will be formed.

This is a difficult time because of the holidays, he said.

An interim has not been named at this time, he said.
