Denton resident killed in one-vehicle accident

According to the Denton Police Department, a man was traveling southbound on the Interstate 35 service road Sunday evening between U.S. Highway 380 and Loop 288 when his vehicle left the roadway and struck a utility pole.

The impact with the pole spun the vehicle and caused it to flip several times, ejecting the driver, police said.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the man as 24-year-old Denton resident Everado Avila-Pozas, who died of blunt-force trauma.

Police are still investigating the cause of the accident.
