Denton officials announced Wednesday that Flower Mound’s former interim town manager, Chuck Springer, will become the city finance director beginning Feb. 11.

Springer was chosen from a pool of 60 applicants for the position that became open when Bryan Langley was promoted to assistant city manager.

Springer’s duties include oversight of accounting, financial reporting, purchasing, warehouse services, budgeting, municipal court, customer service and debt and treasury management.

Previously, Springer worked for the city of Arlington from 1985 until 2006, serving as the cash and debt administrator and treasury administrator.

He was hired as the chief financial officer for the town of Flower Mound in 2006 and was promoted to assistant town manager and chief financial officer in 2008. He served briefly as Flower Mound’s interim town manager, between the town council’s firing of Harlan Jefferson and hiring of Jimmy Stathatos last year.

Springer earned a bachelor’s of arts degree at Indiana University and a master’s of public administration from the University of North Texas.

He holds certifications with the Government Finance Officers Association of Texas and the Association for Financial Professionals.

Springer’s starting salary will be $135,000. He will also receive a $6,000 car allowance.
