Company to present pool of applicants to replace retiring school leader
The Pilot Point school board has hired Arrow Educational Services Inc. to lead its search in finding its next superintendent.
The board voted 7-0 this week to hire the firm after interviewing three firms. The Henderson-based firm assisted Pilot Point in its search in 2007 for a superintendent, which led to the board hiring current Superintendent Glenn Barber.
“They did a very good job [last time],” board President Melinda Street said. “The board felt like they were the best fit.”
Street said the district would pay $6,500 plus expenses not to exceed $1,000 to Arrow Educational Services to find its next superintendent.
The school board is looking for someone to replace Barber, who announced his retirement Jan. 9.
Russell Marshall of Arrow Educational Services said he’ s looking at a March 6 deadline for closing the application process for the superintendent job.
He said the school board would be presented with a profile of the main characteristics in their next leader March 7.
Four groups — the school board, district employees, residents and a select group of students — will be surveyed on what they’d like to see in the district’s next leader, Marshall said.
By mid to late March, he said he expects the district’s pool of applicants to be narrowed.
Marshall said he’s excited about working with the board again in a search for the district’s next leader. Barber, he said, inherited Pilot Point in 2007 at a time in which the district was financially challenged, and he and his staff have turned things around.
Because of that, Marshall said he believes the district will have an “amazing” applicant pool from which to choose and that the position will be one of the most sought-after superintendent jobs in the state.
