Denton County grand jurors indicted a Lewisville man on a murder charge last week in connection with the November death of a 26-year-old man.

According to court records, Humberto Martinez-Benitez, 56, is accused of fatally shooting Jacob Benitez-Gutierrez.

Lewisville police responded to 911 calls involving someone shot in the early morning hours Sunday, Nov. 18 at the Village North Mobile Home Park in Lewisville. Upon arrival, police found Gutierrez dead in the front yard with multiple shot wounds to the head and chest, according to Capt. Kevin Deaver.

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office ruled the death of Gutierrez as a homicide.

Once in custody at the Lewisville Police Department, Martinez-Benetiz told police about an argument him and Gutierrez had in regards to the way Gutierrez spoke to Martinez’s daughter-in-law, which might have led to the shooting, police said.

According to police, Martinez-Benitez and Gutierrez are members of the same family.

Court records on file show Martinez-Benitez beginning paperwork to accept a court appointed attorney.

No date for trial has been set.
