The Denton school board has agreed to sell 3.167 acres of district land to the Texas Department of Transportation for the expansion of FM720.

The board approved the action 7-0 at a meeting Tuesday after discussing the matter in executive session.

Officials from TxDOT could not be reached for comment.

Superintendent Jamie Wilson said TxDOT has offered to pay the district $104,000 for the land located on the northwest corner of FM720 and McCormick Road and the southwest corner of FM720 and Martop Road in Oak Point. Information on when the closing for the land agreement would take place was not readily known by district officials.

Wilson said TxDOT is looking to expand FM720 to six lanes. He said the district is glad to work with TxDOT in making sure the road infrastructure is there in the event other district facilities are developed in the area.

“It’s exciting to see the development come to that area of the district,” Wilson said.
