KRUM — Interim Superintendent Cody Carroll is the lone finalist for the Krum school district’s top job.

Board members voted 7-0 to name him for the position this week.

Trustees are required to wait 21 days before officially hiring Carroll as superintendent.

Board President Phil Enis said the board received four additional applications for the position prior to its closed-session meeting Wednesday. He said the board felt Carroll “is the best for the position.”

“We’re glad to have him here. We feel he will be great for the position as superintendent,” Enis said. “He’s established in the community. He’s done a great job, and we’re hoping to have him staying on in a permanent position.”

Carroll was hired as the district’s assistant superintendent in July after leading the Meadow school district for five years. The school board named the 45-year-old its interim superintendent in January after accepting the resignation of Superintendent Mike Davis and releasing him from his contract.

District spokeswoman Chelbie Birdwell said Carroll has been involved in finalizing recent construction projects, having a hand in the organizational committee for the Krum Education Foundation, reviewing curriculum and determining changes that align with State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) exams, overseeing new hires who’ve entered the district and working with growth planning for the future of the district.

In the time he has spent in Krum, Carroll said he’s been impressed with the people he has met. He said he applied for the job because enjoys the community and district staff.

Carroll said students have been “wonderful” to his three daughters, and the more he and his family learn about the community and the school district, the more it became an area of which he wanted to be a part and in which to raise his family.

“I’m just very excited about the opportunity to serve the students, community of Krum,” Carroll said. “I’m glad for the opportunity to promote the school and help these students be successful.”

Enis said the board intends to make Carroll’s hiring as superintendent official at its May board meeting.
