Area Mattress Firm locations will be accepting donations in support of victims of the West fertilizer plant explosion from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and noon to 6 p.m. Sunday.

Items needed include: bottled water, canned food, sports drinks, energy bars/snacks, dog food, cat food, baby formula, clothing, diapers, bottles, toys, adult diapers, medical supplies, pet crates/carriers, pillows and blankets.

The Dodd National Elementary Honor Society is conducting a West disaster relief donation drive through Friday.

The National Elementary Honor Society at Dodd Intermediate School in Krum is collecting school/office supplies and bottled water for West students and their families.

Drop-off locations are:

University of North Texas organ students S. Andrew Lloyd, Hentus van Rooyen, Christopher Rios, Yangsun Yu and So Jung Park have scheduled a benefit concert for the victims of West at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, at University Park United Methodist Church 4024 Caruth Blvd. in Dallas. The concert is free, but donations will be accepted for relief in West.


Carter Blood Care at 2215 S. Loop 288, Suite 335, in Denton is accepting blood donations.


Community blood drives are also planned:

8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday in the school gymnasium at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 2255 N. Bonnie Brae St.

11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday at the University of North Texas on the east side of the University Union.

11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday at Texas Woman’s University in the visitor parking lot at the intersection of Bell Avenue and Administration Drive.

Jim McNatt Auto Group dealerships, 4100 S. Interstate 35E in Denton, are collecting nonperishable food. Officials said they plan to take a trailer load of goods as soon as it is full.


The American Eagle Harley-Davidson dealership in Corinth will be accepting relief donations through Saturday during operating hours. The dealership at 5920 Interstate 35E is accepting pots, pans, cutlery, dishes, blankets, sheets, jackets, shower curtains, can openers, canned foods, dry foods, socks, water, gift cards, dog food, cat food, toothpaste, toothbrushes and any other items. Store hours are 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., today. All donations will be distributed to a local church.


Pointwest Bank in West has opened a fund for victims of the explosion. Donations will be accepted at 200 W. Oak St., West, TX 76691. The bank’s phone number is 254-826-5333.


Former County Judge Vic Burgess has set up a fund at NorthStar Bank of Texas in Denton to assist family members injured in the West explosion, along with their friends and neighbors. Contributions can be made under the name Scott Burgess, the family said. The bank is at 400 N. Carroll Blvd., and can be reached at 940-591-1200.
