Motorcyclist dies in overnight accident
A 39-year-old man was struck by a car and killed on his motorcycle south of Justin early Saturday, officials said.
Shawn W. Little was traveling south on FM156 when he was struck by a 2007 Hyundai that was heading east on Sam Reynolds Road, said Lonny Haschel, a spokesman for the Texas Department of Public Safety.
Haschel said the driver of the Hyundai — for yet undetermined reasons — failed to yield the right of way, striking Little’s 2005 custom motorcycle at 12:46 a.m.
Little was thrown from the motorcycle and landed in the southbound lane of FM156, killing him upon impact, Haschel said. The motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet.
The motorcycle ended up in the northbound lane of FM156, where it was hit by a 2005 Volkswagen, officials said.
Wreckage from the three-vehicle accident caused the highway to be closed for three hours.
Haschel said the Hyundai had to be towed from the scene. The Volkswagen, he said, was drivable after the driver changed a flat tire.
The drivers of the two cars, both from Justin, were uninjured.
“Nothing was on the scene that indicated alcohol was a contributing factor,” Haschel said Saturday morning.
Officials said Little had a Colorado driver’s license with a Denver address, but witnesses on the scene said he had been staying in the local area.
An investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident is under way.
