The Denton County Transportation Authority will have a Food Truckin’ Tuesdays lunchtime event today at the Downtown Denton Transit Center.
The event, set for 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the center at 604 E. Hickory St., is the first of three monthly food truck events that DCTA has planned as part of a summer pilot program.
“We did a food truck event back in October. It went really well and we did one with WFAA [Channel 8] when they came to Denton for Good Morning Texas,” said Kristina Brevard, marketing and communications manager. “We heard a lot of people say they were wanting us to do it more often. With Denton just approving their food truck program, it was good timing.”
Brevard said officials were looking for a couple hundred people to pass through during the lunch period.
“But then hopefully, as we continue on this summer, we hope the attendance will grow,” she said.
Slated to appear today are the Pickled Carrot, the Happy Camper and Lee Malone’s.
“The food trucks have a following also, so even if they aren’t a passenger or real familiar with DCTA, the food trucks will bring out their fans,” Brevard said.
DentonRadio.com will provide entertainment during the event.
Other Food Truckin’ Tuesdays events will take place July 2 and Aug. 6 at the center. Participating food trucks will vary each month and will be limited based on space availability. DCTA also plans to announce participants in future food truck events via social media.
This month’s Food Truckin’ Tuesday event also will serve as a location for the regional Dump the Pump promotion. Under this program, North Texas commuters can swap a gasoline receipt for a week of free transit.
Officials supporting the program hope it will attract people who have yet to use DCTA services as well as help try to clean up the air.
The passes are good for any Dallas Area Rapid Transit, Fort Worth Transportation Authority or DCTA fixed-route bus and rail service the week of June 16-22.
