Denton police are searching for a man who allegedly robbed a Whataburger restaurant Wednesday morning.

The manager of the Whataburger at 1701 Malone St. told police a man entered the business at 3:20 a.m., pointed a pistol at him and said, “I need the money.”

Police said the suspect made a second employee lie facedown on the floor while he directed the manager to retrieve cash from the register, drop box and safe.

After being handed the cash, police said the suspect pistol-whipped the manager.

Officer Ryan Grelle, spokesman for the Denton Police Department, said the manager was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment and has since been released.

The suspect told the employees to “count to 25” before he fled north of the restaurant to a nearby neighborhood, according to a news release.

The suspect is described as being a thin white male in his mid 20s with short dark hair. The suspect is between 5 feet 7 inches and 5 feet 11 inches tall and weighs between 165 and 175 pounds.

The suspect was clean-shaven and wore a black hooded sweatshirt, black pants, black Vans brand slip-on shoes and gloves. He was carrying a black drawstring-type backpack with a white emblem on it.

The suspect was last seen running westbound on Amherst Street, officials said.

Police are asking anyone with information about the robbery or the suspect to call 940-349-8181.
