Country singer Randy Travis was admitted to a Texas hospital and is listed in critical condition, according to a spokeswoman from his Tennessee-based publicity firm.
The spokeswoman said the Grammy winner is suffering from complications of recently acquired viral cardiomyopathy. She said Travis, of Tioga, was admitted into the medical facility Sunday.
According to Johns Hopkins, “Cardiomyopathy is a disease of the heart muscle that interferes with the heart’s ability to pump blood with sufficient force.”
The spokeswoman declined to release any further information about his condition. The Associated Press reported Travis was in a Dallas hospital.
Travis made headlines recently in Denton County.
In February 2012, Travis was arrested in front of a Sanger church, then released with a citation for public intoxication. Officers said he was sitting behind the wheel of his car in the parking lot.
Then in August 2012 he was arrested in Grayson County after reportedly walking into a Pilot Point convenience store nude to buy cigarettes. He later crashed in Grayson County and was charged with driving while intoxicated. In February he received probation on that Grayson County charge.
