3-year-old ejected, killed in car accident

A 3-year-old boy was found dead Friday afternoon in The Colony after a grandmother told police her grandchild flew out a window of her vehicle during an accident.

Authorities identified the boy as Ismael Galindez of Frisco.

Police said they responded to a welfare call after a woman was reportedly walking back and forth along the 7800 block of FM423.

Due to a language barrier, officials responding to the scene were not immediately aware of the nature of the emergency.

After a Spanish-speaking officer arrived on the scene, police said they learned the woman was looking for her grandchild, who was ejected through a back window during a car accident sometime after 3 p.m.

Police said the grandmother lost control of her vehicle and went across the southbound traffic lanes, striking a guardrail in the same area where she was found walking. At some point during the incident, she realized that her 3-year-old grandchild was missing from the backseat of the vehicle.

Investigators said the child was ejected from the vehicle while it was traveling northbound along the road where the grandmother was looking for him.

Officers found the child and members of The Colony police and fire departments administered medical attention to the boy, but he died at the scene, officials said.

Police said it was unclear whether there were other people in the vehicle, and the investigation is continuing.
