An apparent murder-suicide over the weekend has left a hole in many hearts.

Denton police, responding to the report of a shooting in the 1800 block of Locksley Lane around 9 p.m. Friday, discovered the bodies of 55-year-old Anne Huffhines and 46-year-old Anthony Farish outside their residence, department spokesman Officer Ryan Grelle said.

Grelle said Huffhines was found in the bed of a pickup truck, and Farish was found lying on the driveway at the residence.

“They both had wounds to the head that was caused by a pistol,” Grelle said.

Police said the two were believed to be recently married.

Grelle said investigators are ruling the deaths an apparent murder-suicide and police believe Farish was the shooter.

Huffhines, a North Texas paralegal, was remembered by many friends and a least one family member during a gathering Sunday afternoon in the back room of Sweetwater Grill & Tavern on Elm Street in downtown Denton.

The room was filled with loved ones hugging each other and wiping away tears — consoling one another over the loss of a person whose life was cut short.

Betty Spratt drove from Plano to celebrate the life of a young woman she watched grow up.

“My daughter and her were best friends and ran all over town here together,” Spratt said. “She was such a happy girl and always made me laugh.”

The couple were believed to have been arguing before the shots were fired, police said. The investigation is ongoing.

Police said Farish had a past criminal history. There is no record of police activity at the couple’s address where the bodies were located, Grelle said.

Huffhines’ school-aged son was inside the home at the time of the shooting, police said. Huffhines also has a daughter, who officials said is in her early 20s.

“It’s just tragic her life had to end this way,” Spratt said of Huffhines.

As photos displayed across a flat screen television capturing highlights of Huffhines’ life late Sunday, a friend was overheard saying, “That’s how I remember Anne, with a big smile.”
