The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s office has identified the two men who drowned in Lewisville Lake this weekend as 33-year-old Jorge Rodriguez of Mesquite and 37-year-old Milan Shah of Frisco.

The bodies of both men were recovered from the lake Monday afternoon.

Rodriguez fell from a double-decker party boat Friday while with his family near The Colony at Pier 121 Marina, Game Warden Daron Blackerby said.

He was found approximately 100 to 200 yards south of the State Highway 121 split at Lewisville Lake, officials reported.

Shah and his two children fell from an inner tube that was being pulled by a boat early Sunday afternoon. The children, who were wearing life jackets, were not injured, Game Warden Logan Griffin said.

Griffin said the area in which the Shah drowned was surrounded by stumps and other underwater obstacles, which made the search difficult, he said.

According to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner, Shah was found 200 yards north of Hidden Cove Marina.

Law enforcement officials reported that neither of the two men were wearing life jackets, which is common in drowning accidents, records show.

Just days before the accident, officials encouraged North Texas residents to stay safe on the lakes and to wear safety gear. State and local authorities also reported that lake accidents were down this year from 2012.

According to state records, the deaths this weekend were the third and fourth deaths on a major county lake this year.

Since 2004, there have been 35 reported drownings, including the two this weekend.

And according to records obtained from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, only three, or 8 percent, of those victims wore life jackets.

Records show that 2008 and 2012 were the worst years since 2004 for drowning accidents.

In both years, eight people died in Lewisville Lake and Ray Roberts Lake.
