4 new positions in proposed budget

Within the 2014 fiscal year budget are ways Denton County Transportation Authority officials plan to enhance service in a number of areas.

In the budget staff recommended to the board at the August board meeting were four positions in a variety of areas that affect riders on the bus or rail every day. Through the new hires, agency officials are hoping for continued positive growth of ridership and smoother operations for the agency altogether.

“As the agency grows, so does the need to increase staffing,” said spokeswoman Kristina Brevard.

The agency already put a new senior planner, Anne MacCracken, to work Tuesday. The agency will also have a new director of transit operations starting later this week. Both are filling vacancies DCTA already had.

As part of the proposed fiscal year 2014 budget, staff recommended to the board four positions: a full-time administrative assistant, an information technology manager, a customer service representative and an operations supervisor.

“Currently we use an outsource vendor for all of our IT needs,” Brevard said. “We really need someone in-house, especially as the agency grows. And with our new technology we are implementing this year — the Where’s My Ride, the Go Pass app, our website — we need someone with the technical expertise in-house to help with the daily operations and also work with the IT vendor on larger projects.”

Brevard said the customer service representative will be housed at the Euline Brock Downtown Denton Transit Center and will help alleviate the call load on current customer service representatives. The operations supervisor will add to the number of people on the ground to monitor the daily operations, and the administrative assistant will work out of the administration building in Lewisville to support daily operations at the main office.

DCTA president Jim Cline said the positions all have direct links to many of DCTA’s customers, whether in the field or the office.

“It’s good operational accountability, financial accountablity. Not that we don’t have those things, but we can do a much better job,” Cline said.

Brevard said in the past the agency has had a very lean staff that has accomplished a lot.

“But there is a need to maximize efficiencies and keep operations rolling at the pace it needs to and continue providing quality service to our customers,” she said.
