Flower Mound town officials have selected Andy Kancel as the new police chief after an extensive search that included sorting through more than 60 applications from across the country, according to a town press release.
Kancel comes to Flower Mound from North Richland Hills, where he had served since 1989, most recently in the role of assistant police chief of the management services bureau.
In the press release, Town Manager Jimmy Stathatos said Kancel is a highly respected law enforcement leader whose focus on community policing and public outreach will be a tremendous asset.
“When examining all the outstanding applicants, Andy Kancel’s experience, integrity and approachable demeanor quickly elevated him to the top of our list. We look forward to having Chief Kancel at the helm of our police department for many years to come,” he said.
In June, the town began the search for a chief after the retirement of longtime Chief Kenneth Brooker.
“I am honored to be able to serve the citizens of Flower Mound as well as the staff of this great police department,” Kancel said. “I look forward to getting to know everyone. And my family and I are very excited to become a part of the Flower Mound community.”
