A 59-year-old man was the ninth drowning victim in Denton County this year, officials said.

Lenny Kudera, a resident of Highland Village, was pronounced dead at 10:44 a.m. Monday after his body was pulled from Lake Lewisville, according to Chief Death Investigator Troy Taylor.

Capt. Neal Bieler, a Texas Parks and Wildlife Department game warden, said Kudera was hanging out on a boat dock with family members at Eagle Point Pier, located on Eagle Point Drive, when a family member walked back and noticed keys and a cellphone left on the dock, but Kudera was nowhere to be found.

Bieler said the Lewisville Fire Department initially responded until the game wardens were dispatched.

According to the fire department, crews were dispatched on a boat Sunday night shortly before 6 p.m. and were unable to locate anyone by using their sonar.

Bieler said Monday morning that crews went back out to continue the search.

“Since the wardens had a location of where Kudera might be, they were able to recover his body fairly quickly; right near the boat slip where he went down,” Bieler said.

Taylor said Kudera was not wearing a life jacket.

This is the sixth lake-related drowning this year, he said, and if he were to include swimming pools, the county has seen nine drowning-related deaths total.
