A new elementary school set to open in August 2014 in the fast-growing southern portion of the Denton school district will mean new attendance boundaries for five other elementary schools, according to school officials.

The proposed boundary changes would go into effect for the 2014-15 school year and would affect students attending E.P. Rayzor, Blanton, Pecan Creek, Hawk and McNair elementary schools.

The Denton school district has scheduled two public hearings to provide parents the chance to review proposed boundary changes and explore attendance options. The hearings are set for 7 p.m. Dec. 3 at Crownover Middle School, 1901 Creekside Drive in Corinth, and Dec. 5 at Harpool Middle School, 9601 Stacee Lane in Lantana.

“This meeting provides families the opportunity to plan ahead and/or have choices for the coming school year,” said Assistant Superintendent Robert Bostic, in a written statement. “It also is necessary for the school administrators to plan for staffing at these schools.”

The new elementary school, now referred to as Elementary School No. 22, will be north of FM407 and west of Copper Canyon Road near the Fairlin neighborhood of Lantana. The proposed boundaries for the new school will include the Lantana neighborhoods of Sierra, Telea, Laviana, Gaillardia, Fairlin, Reata, Palmetto, Meridian, Crescent and Kendall. The school will also draw from Bartonville, Double Oak, Canyon Oaks, Copper Canyon and other areas south, west and north of FM407 and east and west of Copper Canyon Road.

Proposed changes to boundaries for neighboring schools include:

E.P. Rayzor Elementary: It will include mostly the Lantana neighborhoods of Carlisle, Wimberly, Camden, Brazos, Sonora, Wisteria, Navarro, Magnolia and Bel Air.

Hawk Elementary: Students in the Oakmont area west of Interstate 35, who currently attend Pecan Creek Elementary, are proposed to attend Hawk.

McNair Elementary: Students from in the Hickory Creek community, which borders Bluebonnet and Redbud, and who are now attending Blanton, are proposed to attend McNair.

Blanton Elementary: The attendance zone will include the current neighborhoods except for students in the neighborhoods zoned for the new school or E.P. Rayzor.
