Schools close for Friday

The following is a list of notices from area schools, colleges and universities who have announced early closures, canceled activities for today and, for some, on Friday. We will keep this list updated throughout the ice storm.


All Argyle ISD campuses will be closed on Friday.

All Aubrey ISD campuses will be closed on Friday.

All Denton ISD campuses will be closed on Friday.

Denton Calvary Academy will be closed on Friday.

Regular dismissal schedule for today for Gainesville ISD.  All Gainesville ISD campuses will be closed for Friday. Officials will re-evaluate the situation on Sunday night.

All after-school activities at Shady Shores Elementary School in Lake Dallas have been canceled for today.

Fred Moore Day Nursery School Inc. will be closed on Friday.

Krum ISD campuses will be closed on Friday.

Immaculate Conception Catholic School in Denton will be closed Friday

Lake Dallas ISD: All campuses will be closed on Friday. No after school practice today or before school practice Friday. The weight rooms at the high school will be closed after school today. The PTA meeting and third-grade program has been rescheduled for Dec. 12.

Lewisville ISD: All campuses will be closed on Friday.

Liberty Christian School closed today at 12:45 p.m. and will be closed on Friday.  Saturday's Spotlight Christmas Show has been rescheduled for 3 p.m. Dec. 15.The Wee Warrior Christmas program tonight has been rescheduled for 6:30 p.m. Dec. 9. All activities and athletic events have been canceled.

Little Elm ISD: All classes and activities have been canceled for Friday.

Northwest ISD has canceled all activities and events tonight and Friday. All campuses and offices will be closed Friday.

Pilot Point ISD has canceled all classes and activities on all campuses on Friday.

Ponder ISD has canceled classes on all campuses on Friday.

Sanger ISD has canceled classes on all campuses on Friday.

Selwyn College Preparatory School has cancelled all activities and classes on campus for Friday

Texas Education Centers will be closed on Friday.

Winfree Academy Charter Schools - All basketball games canceled tonight. All campuses will be closed Friday.

College campuses

Due to inclement weather, all North Central Texas College campuses will be closing at 3 p.m. today.
All campuses will remain closed on Friday. Face-to-face final exams for Saturday have been postponed until Saturday, Dec 14. 


Texas Woman’s University closed its campus at 1 p.m. with plans to remain closed on Friday.

University of North Texas closed its campus at 1 p.m. with plans to remain closed on Friday.

Government facilities

Aubrey city offices will be closed today.

All Denton County offices are closed Friday.

Due to further assessment of the current icy conditions, it has been determined that all city offices in Denton will be closed today. Essential employees and emergency services will continue to operate.


The Friday production of Kids’ Christmas/Littlest Angel has been cancelled.  At this time, Saturday and Sunday matinees are still scheduled.  Officials plan to make the final determination on the Saturday show by 4 p.m. Friday.

The Holiday Lighting Festival has been canceled for Friday. A smaller event with The Wassail Fest and the annual Christmas tree lighting is scheduled for the following Friday, Dec. 13.

Due to the weather, this Friday's Old-Fashioned Christmas event in Carrollton has been cancelled. The event will be rescheduled for a later date in December.

Due to inclement weather, the community forum to discuss recreation and the quality of life in Denton, originally scheduled for Friday, will be rescheduled. The forum will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Jan. 14 at theJoseph A. Carroll Building, 401 W. Hickory St., in downtown Denton. The free event is the first in a series of meetings inviting locals to share views about quality of life in Denton in five areas:

Recreation and well-being



Health care, including mental health and substance abuse services

Community support and services

The Jan. 14 meeting will focus on recreational health. An invited expert will lead community members in a discussion about the city’s existing assets and perceived areas of need across a range of services, from libraries and fitness facilities to hiking trails and cultural venues.

The University of North Texas, in partnership with the North Central Texas Area Agency on Aging and the Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services, is seeking Denton residents of all ages to participate in a community forum to assess quality of life in Denton. The Toys for Tots toy drive at Golden Triangle Mall is being postponed until Dec. 13-15.

Merry Main Street, Frisco's annual holiday celebration scheduled for Saturday, December 7, has been canceled due to inclement weather. The Kids Holiday Store and the lighting of the Christmas tree will take place Friday, Dec. 13, in Simpson Plaza, city officials said. Breakfast with Santa, also scheduled for Saturday in Frisco, has been postponed until Saturday, Dec. 21. It will take place at the Frisco Senior Center at the previously scheduled times. Refunds will be issued to families who are unable to attend.

Denton ISD: Families that were previously notified, please note - The rezoning meeting involving the opening of Elementary No. 22 and it's surrounding boundaries has been rescheduled for 7 p.m. Monday (Dec. 9) at Harpool Middle School.

Service centers

All VA North Texas Health Care System facilities in Dallas, Bonham, Fort Worth and Tyler will remain open and fully operational during normal business hours on Friday. The following exceptions apply:

Community-based outpatient clinics in Bridgeport, Denton, Granbury, Greenville and Sherman will open at 10 a.m. Friday. 

Patients should call VA North Texas Health Care System to re-schedule appointments, if they are unable to make their appointments.

United Way of Denton County is closed December 6th, and all associated activities over the weekend are either canceled or rescheduled.


Krum Dental Associates will be closed Friday due to the weather.

Tiny Tykes Learning Center will be closed Friday

Oxide Gallery: Due to the winter storm the art gallery and flower shop will be closed Friday and Saturday. The gallery night event planned for Saturday will be postponed.
