Icy roads leave shelves bare of basic staples as new truck deliveries are delayed by days
Several reports of barren shelves at area grocery stores began surfacing over the weekend.
Residents reported shortages of staples from milk to bread to eggs and other meat.
Though the shelves at Denton’s Brookshires Food & Pharmacy are currently devoid of bread, eggs and milk, a late Monday afternoon truck out of Tyler was expected to change things.
“It will have all the perishables, milk, eggs, meat, everything,” said store director Wes Richardson.
The truck was expected to arrive between 4:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.
The store did have a few other breads like dinner rolls and a handful of cartons of Egg Beaters left.
Richardson said the store remained busy over the weekend despite the icy conditions with many stocking up on ground meat. In fact, it was the first thing the store ran out of during the last minute shopping by residents stocking up for a long stay at home.
