National Weather Service issues hazardous outlook

The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook for Denton and the rest of North Texas because temperatures were expected to drop into the teens Sunday night and remain at or below freezing today.

Temperatures are predicted to take another dramatic dip tonight but are expected to gradually increase as the week progresses.

Plants and pets should always be brought inside to escape cold weather, according to local officials.

Any kind of tropical plants should be moved inside or covered as well, said Karin Chadwick of Meadors Nursery.

“The biggest thing is to cover what you can’t take in,” she said. “It’s always better to be safe than sorry.”

Chadwick suggested watering in-ground plants before freezing temperatures hit to help protect the roots and keep them warm.

Outdoor pets should always be brought inside overnight, said Stephanie Daniels, a communications specialist at SPCA Texas.

By Wednesday, temperatures are predicted to reach the mid-50s.
