A 22-year-old man who was reported missing Monday was discovered dead Tuesday afternoon after his Toyota Camry left the road and struck some trees during a one-vehicle accident along U.S. Highway 380 near Krum.

Luke Peace Amundsen, whose license listed a Port Aransas address, was found inside his vehicle near some trees at the accident scene by law enforcement officers shortly after a passerby reported seeing trees knocked down in the area around 1 p.m. Tuesday.

Sandi Brackeen, spokeswoman for the Denton County Sheriff’s Office, said Amundsen was killed in the 12000 block of U.S. 380, near Trent Road.

During accident clean-up, a portion of U.S. 380 was closed for a couple of hours Tuesday, she said.

Officials working the accident reported Amundsen likely hit a curb, became airborne and landed in some trees.

The accident is under investigation.

Officer Ryan Grelle, spokesman for Denton police, said a missing person report on Amundsen was filed with the department Monday.

Troy Taylor, chief death investigator for the county, said he believes Amundsen could have been dead since Saturday morning.

His vehicle was largely hidden, making it difficult to see the accident scene, Taylor said.

An autopsy is scheduled today to determine an official cause of death.
