SANGER — The City Council has decided to partner with a revived Sanger Texas Downtown Association, which seeks to encourage downtown business and economic development by hosting “vibrant cultural events and activities.”

City Manager Mike Brice said that several years ago, a group of downtown business and property owners formed a nonprofit organization to improve and develop downtown Sanger.

“From my understanding, the association helped complete some street scape and downtown improvement projects,” Brice said.

However, after a few years, the organization became inactive, he said. Momentum fizzled after a few members moved away, stopped attending meetings or simply lost motivation.

But now the organization has been reformed and rededicated to making downtown Sanger a strong and vibrant part of the Sanger community. Officials even created a Facebook page, Sanger Texas Downtown Association, to elicit ideas from residents for improvements and events to use to improve the downtown culture.

The city decided to partner with the association last week during a City Council meeting. City officials had already been meeting with association officials to discuss future initiatives, Brice said, and during the meeting, council members approved a resolution recognizing the efforts of the association, setting it as the voice of downtown.

The association’s new board of directors and association members have already discussed events that would bring people into downtown and ways to promote downtown businesses.

Nothing has been made official, but officials encourage residents to keep up with events on Facebook or on the city of Sanger’s website,

The directors and city staff have discussed certain events that would require specific agreements detailing city resources to be dedicated and expended. Those agreements will be made with city staff and council members as such events are scheduled, Brice said.
