State environmental officials this week approved a default order fining the owner of a Lewisville Fina Mart $12,856 in connection with six violations of state rules governing underground petroleum storage tanks.

According to state records, inspectors with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality found that the convenience store owner failed to renew in early 2012 the certificate required to receive gasoline deliveries and to show that certificate to the delivery company. Additional violations listed in the default order included failing to provide leak protection equipment for the storage system, failing to monitor the system for leaks and failing to make records about leak protection and monitoring available to the inspectors.

Sang Kim, the owner of the Fina Mart, which is located on Old Orchard Road, could not be reached for comment.

In all, TCEQ on Wednesday approved penalties in Austin totaling $295,236 against 27 entities for violating state environmental regulations.
