Unseasonably cold temperatures this year triggered some delays in replacing water and electric lines along East Hickory Street, part of a $3.1 million “grand street” makeover for the area, city leaders said Monday.

Sewer line construction is complete, but water and electric construction is expected to continue between Locust Street and Railroad Avenue through April. Reconstruction of the street pavement, sidewalks and other beautification projects is now expected to begin in June, but is still scheduled for completion by December.

Existing businesses and residents will have access to Hickory Street during construction. Detour routes for lane and street closures will be posted during all phases of the project.

The city provides regular updates on the project through and sends letters and emails to affected residents and businesses in the construction area.
