Feyten scheduled to begin as next chancellor and president on July 1
Carine Feyten was officially named the next chancellor and president of Texas Woman’s University and has announced a start date of July 1.
After the required 21-day waiting period since she was named the sole finalist for the position, the TWU Board of Regents voted unanimously to formally hire Feyten for the job on Friday.
“It feels great,” Feyten said of the confirmation. “I’m just really excited and really looking forward to joining TWU, getting to learn about all the wonderful things they’ve already done, and learn how we can take it to the next level.”
During the waiting period, Feyten was able to visit the TWU campuses in Denton, Dallas and Houston, which made her even more excited to join the university, she said. Not only were the people “warm and welcoming,” she said, but they also showed their love for the institution immediately.
“I felt like everyone was really genuinely welcoming me,” she said. “Everyone is very committed, which really is an amazing asset when you have people that are committed and passionate about an institution, and I really appreciated that.”
Feyten, who is currently the dean of the College of Education, Health and Society at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, will succeed Ann Stuart, who is retiring after 14 years in the position.
Feyten is already starting to work on her transition to the university. She has been in touch with cabinet members, so once she arrives on campus, she can identify and address the needs of the institution. That way, she will have time in the fall as the semester starts to get to know faculty and students, she said.
“Once the semester starts, I can really spend my time meeting with faculty and students, and learn more from their perspectives and learn from the people who make this a great place,” she said.
