Officials identify man killed by train

The man who was struck and killed by a Union Pacific Railroad train late Monday night has been identified as Jose Joel Chavez Morales of Denton.

Morales, 34, was found nearly 50 yards from Dallas Drive after he was hit by a work train at 10:12 p.m., officials said.

The 30-car train was traveling southbound from Denison and was headed to Louisiana, hauling steel beams to make railroad tracks, according to Elizabeth Hutchison, spokeswoman for Union Pacific Railroad.

Two employees were on board and counseling services have been made available to them, she said.

The case remains under investigation.
