County NAACP plans candidate forum

The Denton County NAACP will have its candidate forum for the Tuesday runoff election from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Denton Public Safety Training Center,719 E. Hickory St.

It is the same building as the police department, at the far east end of the building, officials said. The forum will be in Room 120, Classroom C.

The election includes three local runoffs from the March 4 GOP primary election. There are also several statewide runoffs for both Republicans and Democrats. Early voting is underway and will continue through Friday.

Candidates who have confirmed they will attend the NAACP forum are District Attorney Paul Johnson and his opponent, Karen Alexander; Precinct 4 Justice of the Peace J.W. Hand and his opponent, Harris Hughey; and Precinct 5 justice of the peace candidate Mike Oglesby, who is facing Cynthia Mitchell in the runoff. Mitchell is not expected to attend.
