The Denton County Transportation Authority wants area motorists to dump the pump.

The agency is partnering with Forth Worth Transportation Authority and Dallas Area Rapid Transit to encourage the Dallas-Forth Worth area to try public transit in recognition of the 2014 National Dump the Pump Day on June 19.

DCTA will be distributing free weeklong regional transit passes in exchange for a gasoline receipt. The transit passes will be valid for unlimited travel the week of June 16-21 on DCTA, DART, Trinity Railway Express and The T. The agency will be present at various Dump the Pump locations throughout Denton County in the next couple of weeks.

DCTA staff members will be on site at the following Dump the Pump locations to hand out information:

• 9 a.m. Saturday — Celebrate Highland Village Family Fish Out at Unity Park, 2200 Briarhill Blvd.

• 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Wednesday — Austin Street Truck Stop, 208 N. Austin St.

• 6:30 to 8 p.m. June 12 — Denton Twilight Tunes at the Denton County Courthouse on the Square, 110 W. Hickory St.

Dump the Pump is a national effort initiated by the American Public Transportation Association to emphasize the economic and environmental benefits of using public transit.
