Most employees working for the Argyle and Lake Dallas school districts can expect a pay increase come next school year.

At an Argyle school board meeting earlier this week, board members gave their approval to increase pay by $1,000 for educators on a salary scale and give 3 percent raises to all other district employees.

Educators on the salary scale, which determines pay based on years of experience, include teachers and full-time librarians, counselors and nurses. According to district documents, an additional $500 will be paid out to current employees who are on the last step of the salary scale, with 27 years or more experience, and who will remain there for the 2014-15 year.

The estimated cost for the salary scale increases total $221,500, according to Superintendent Telena Wright.

All other district employees will receive a 3 percent pay increase, at an estimated cost of $86,000 for the district.

The raises will be included in the next fiscal budget, which the school board is expected to consider adopting in the next couple of months. The new fiscal year begins Sept. 1.

Increased insurance expenses and an effort to offer competitive pay were among the reasons for the raises, Wright said.

“We have a goal in our strategic plan that we maintain a competitive salary schedule for our teachers and our staff,” she said. “One of our goals is to maintain and retain quality teachers and staff.”

The Lake Dallas school board this week approved $1,600 salary increases for teachers, librarians, counselors, nurses, speech pathologists and special education professional personnel working 187 days a year. According to a district news release, the salary increase equates to a 3 percent pay raise.

The board also approved a raise of 50 cents per hour for education aides and food service, maintenance, custodial and transportation workers.

Details on the estimated costs the district would spend for the increases were not readily available Thursday.
