Fire displaces two

A Tuesday afternoon fire resulted in an estimated $20,000 in damages to a house in the 200 block of Stone Canyon Drive in Highland Village, Assistant Fire Chief Jason Collier said.

No one was injured in the blaze, which started in the kitchen and was reported by one of two residents of the house, he said.

Collier said smoke was visible from the roof of the single-story structure when firefighters arrived and the fire could be seen through an open door.

“The residents left the front door open, so you could see visible fire from the kitchen inside,” Collier said.

The fire was put out in about 15 to 20 minutes, Collier said, and never reached a two-alarm status.

Collier urged everyone to be attentive and careful when cooking.

“I don’t think there was much he could have done,” Collier said. “ He was there cooking and it just kind of flared up on him.”

Flower Mound and Lewisville fire departments assisted with the fire.
