This fall, Lake Dallas ISD launches after-school service for students

Lake Dallas school district parents will have an opportunity Tuesday to preview the district’s new after-school program, InZone Extended Day.

The event, open to students and their families, will be from 7 to 8 p.m. at Shady Shores Elementary School, 300 Dobbs Road.

The preview event will include snow cones, a meet-and-greet with after-school program staff members and information about the curriculum and other offerings.

The Lake Dallas school district is partnering with after-school service AlphaBest to offer the program, according to a district media release. Tuition is $65 weekly, and assistance is being offered for families needing financial help. Similar programs are offered in other North Texas school districts including Aubrey, Frisco, Little Elm, Prosper and Wylie, according to the AlphaBest website.

Liesl Payne, coordinator for the district’s InZone Extended Day, said the program will be offered at all three Lake Dallas elementary schools starting this fall.

Some parents have been asking for an after-school program, she said.

“And we just see the need,” Payne said. “We knew that kids going home, maybe unsupervised, could really benefit from the educational benefits of the program.”

Payne said students staying after school will receive tutoring from Lake Dallas teachers, and one-hour grade-specific lessons in subjects including foreign language, science, technology and fine arts. She said the students will be given an extra hour to an hour and a half of support daily that she hopes will translate to success in the student’s schoolwork.

“We’re really excited about this,” Payne said. “It should be a win-win for everybody.”

A second preview event will be offered from 7 to 8 p.m. Aug. 5 at Lake Dallas Elementary School, 401 Main St.
