Blotter: Police say ax handle was used in aggravated assault

A 47-year-old man was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after he struck another man multiple times with an ax handle, Denton police said.

According to reports, an officer was dispatched to the 700 block of Londonderry Lane at 10:17 p.m. Monday when a 45-year-old man reported he was hit by the suspect several times with an ax handle after he came over to pick up a friend.

Police said both people were interviewed and the 47-year-old was taken to the city jail.

The man injured was hit on the back of his head and neck and no medical assistance was required while officers were there, police said.

1900 block of Brinker Road — A woman accused of shoplifting at a home improvement store Monday evening was charged with theft and possession of drug paraphernalia, Denton police said.

According to reports, the 27-year-old was taken into custody after allegedly taking less than $1,500 worth of merchandise without paying. At the jail, police discovered drug paraphernalia during a property search.

She has a criminal history with two previous convictions for theft, police said.


Denton County sheriff’s dispatchers handled 879 service and officer-initiated calls for the agencies they serve. Thirty-one people were booked into Denton County Jail.

Denton police responded to 254 service and officer-initiated calls and posted 15 reports online.

Denton firefighters responded to 25 medical calls and four vehicle accidents.
