Blotter: Motorcyclist arrested in alleged drive-by shooting

A 36-year-old Denton man was placed in custody by Denton police Monday after police received a call from a motorist reporting a drive-by shooting on Intestate 35E.

The suspect, who was traveling by motorcycle south on I-35E, was pulled over for a traffic stop by Corinth police, according to a police report. Denton police were dispatched to assist Corinth officers with the stop.

According to the police report, an officer removed a loaded handgun from the man’s jacket pocket.

Denton police arrested the man on a charge of a deadly conduct/firearm offense and transported him to the city jail.

East University Drive and North Loop 288 — Denton police observed a 22-year-old man driving the wrong way.

The driver, according to police, was not intoxicated. After conducting a traffic stop, Denton police arrested the man for outstanding traffic warrants.

3300 block of Buckthorn Lane — A woman reported to Denton police that a diamond ring had been stolen from her home. According to the police report, the woman suspected a friend of the theft. The friend had lived with the woman for about five months and other items, including cash from purses, had turned up missing during the friend’s stay, she told police.

500 block of Acme Street — A man reported to police that he suspected a couple he allowed to stay with him of stealing more than $340 in cash and leaving without notice.


From 7 a.m. Monday to 7 a.m. Tuesday:

Denton County sheriff’s dispatchers handled 901 service and officer-initiated calls for the agencies they serve, and 52 people were booked into Denton County Jail.

Denton police posted 17 reports online.

Denton firefighters assisted one invalid and responded to 17 medical calls, a good intent call, an unauthorized burning, a public assistance call, an outside trash receptacle fire and a smoke scare.
