Blotter: Police arrest group of shoplifting suspects

Denton police officers arrested a trio of shoplifters Thursday evening.

A little before 9:30 p.m., an officer was dispatched to a shoplifting call at a retail store in the 1500 block of South Loop 288. The store’s loss prevention employee had two females and two males detained.

The employee told police the staff had noticed the two men and one of the women near the cosmetics section of the store with a shopping cart holding empty Walmart bags. After selecting miscellaneous cosmetics and concealing them in a bag, the trio then went to another location in the store, according to a police report.

The group concealed more items in the bags and then exited the store, according to the report. Employees stopped the three people and brought them to the loss prevention office.

One of the women stated that she had stolen the majority of the items. One man admitted to placing a belt in the bag and the other man admitted to placing socks in the bag.

The woman was arrested on a charge of theft greater than $50 and less than $500, and the men were each arrested on charges of theft less than $50.

1100 block of Lakeview Boulevard — Denton officers were dispatched in reference to an assault call. The spouses at the residence had an argument that became physical, according to a police report. The two had visible injuries.

1500 block of South Loop 288 — Denton police were dispatched to a local department store regarding multiple shoplifters.

The suspects were caught with almost $400 worth of property, according to a police report. Both of the suspects were arrested on theft charges and booked into the Denton City Jail.

The suspects had a baby with them, and after several failed attempts to contact a family member, Child Protective Services had to take custody of the child.


From 7 a.m. Thursday to 7 a.m. Friday:

Denton County sheriff’s dispatchers handled 676 service and officer-initiated calls for the agencies they serve, and 40 people were booked into Denton County Jail.

Denton police handled 266 service and officer-initiated calls and posted 23 reports online.

Denton firefighters responded to 13 medical calls, an unintentional alarm, a vehicle accident with injuries, a water leak, a service call and a good intent call and assisted two invalids.
