Highland Village — The West Nile virus has been detected in mosquitoes found in three of the city’s traps, according to a press release by the Highland Vilage city manager’s office.

The city was set to begin spraying operations Friday night and then again tonight in the affected neighborhoods located in the northwest and southeast sections of Highland Village and in the area north of FM407.

Spraying will begin after tonight’s Highland Village Lions Club Balloon Festival.

City officials advise that residents living in sprayed neighborhoods need to minimize exposure to the pesticides by staying indoors during spraying, covering fish ponds, bringing pets indoors and closing windows.

In case of exposure, the city recommends to wash skin with soap and water and rinse eyes with water or saline solution.
