Lake Dallas set to swear in new board member

The Lake Dallas school district will swear in a new board member Sept. 15.

On Tuesday, Lake Dallas school trustees unanimously appointed Steve Payne to fill the unexpired Place 2 school board term. Carol Jula, who resigned earlier this summer, previously occupied the seat.

The term expires in May. According to the state education codes, a school board can fill a vacant unexpired term by either appointing someone until the next election or by ordering a special election.

Payne, 50, is a chemist and lives in Hickory Creek. A resident of the Lake Cities area for 46 years, he attended grade school in Lake Dallas public schools, according to the school district.

“I am excited to work with a board and staff that have been so dedicated to providing our students with the opportunities necessary to succeed,” Payne stated. “They definitely have us moving in the right direction, and I know it will continue.”
