A 50-year-old Rhome woman was killed in a four-vehicle accident that closed State Highway 114 for several hours Monday night, according to Texas Department of Public Safety officials.

Jamie Richardson was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident in the 15900 block of State Highway 114 at South County Line Road in Denton County, said Sgt. Lonny Haschel, DPS spokesman.

Haschel said a semi pulling a box trailer was traveling west on Highway 114 at about 6:45 p.m. when the driver, 49-year-old Richard Grady of Del Valle, saw that an eastbound Freightliner hauling rocks had crossed into the westbound lane.

Grady took evasive action but the semi was still struck by the eastbound tractor, Haschel said.

The Freightliner then struck a Hyundai Elantra driven by Richardson and a Chevrolet Tahoe that was traveling westbound behind Richardson, Haschel said.

The Freightliner overturned and dumped its load of rocks on the highway, Haschel said. The driver, 60-year-old David McMinn of North Richland Hills, was transported to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth via air ambulance.

Grady and 41-year-old Gaylon Presson of Boyd, the driver of the Tahoe, were treated at the scene and released, officials said.

It was the third fatal accident reported in Denton County in two weeks, officials said.

Grapevine resident Rizwana Shamshuddin, 40, was killed Sunday night on Interstate 35E in Carrollton when the vehicle she was driving went through a grassy median, flipped over a concrete barricade and landed in the northbound lanes of the interstate, Carrollton police said.

Shamshuddin was driving in the northbound service road at about 8:40 p.m. when the accident occurred, and she was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

On Aug. 26, Steven Wilkerson, 21, and Paul Martie, 19, both of Sanger, died in a one-vehicle crash on View Road in Sanger, Haschel said.

The vehicle, driven by Wilkerson, traveled through the intersection at Metz Road, hit a bump and went airborne, Haschel said.

The vehicle then slid sideways, struck a utility pole and overturned before crashing into a tree in the 1800 block of View Road.

Johnny Powell and Jaci Dane, both 20 and also of Sanger, were passengers in the vehicle and suffered critical injuries in the accident.

Powell and Dane were transported via air ambulance to Medical Center of Plano, Haschel said.

All three crashes remain under investigation, officials said.
