Ralph Hawkins, chairman of the board of HKS Inc, an international architecture firm in Dallas, was announced as the next recipient of the Virginia Dykes Leadership Award on Tuesday.
The award, presented annually by Texas Woman’s University, the TWU Foundation and the Bank of Texas, will be presented at the annual luncheon in February. Hawkins, who previously served as the CEO of HKS, oversaw the construction of the TWU T. Boone Pickens Institute of Health Services-Dallas Center building.
“It’s been an absolutely tremendous project for Dallas and the area, and I think it really shows what TWU is all about here in Dallas, and Denton as well,” Hawkins said.
According to the event invitation, the annual award is given to a “Dallas leader with a lifelong commitment to improving the quality of life in the community and furthering the importance of education.”
Hawkins was announced the 2015 recipient at a reception Tuesday night. Former recipients include Mary Brinegar, president and CEO of the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Society, and businessman T. Boone Pickens.
To now be included on this list is an honor, Hawkins said.
“I’m extremely humbled. I’ve seen the other award winners from the past, and I feel fortunate to be in the same category as them,” he said.
The ceremony in February will also award four graduate scholarships. The following students will be honored in 2015: Lenin Grajo from the College of Health Sciences, Heidi Gilroy of the College of Nursing, Lena Jackson-Lynch from the College of Professional Education, and Tawny LeBouef Tullia of the College of Arts and Sciences.
The luncheon will be Feb. 19 and new TWU President and Chancellor Carine Feyten will present the leadership award.
