Insight Denton: Why are there so many Union Pacific trucks and workers downtown? Are they finally cleaning up the rail yard?

No. They are doing some routine line maintenance, according to city officials.

Denton has been working with the railroad company for several years to get the right of way through the city and the rail yard downtown cleaned up. Community Improvement Services has made some progress mowing and cleaning up the railroad right of away along Mingo Road, where illegal dumping has been a problem in the past.

Lancine Bentley, the department’s director, said representatives from Community Improvement Services and the railroad will meet again Monday. She said she remains hopeful the city can get the downtown property cleaned up.
